Program Description
Did you know that the City of Knoxville recently lowered the speed limit on all unposted roadways? Have you ever encountered a bike box, HAWK signal, or another piece of infrastructure while biking, walking, or driving and not known how to navigate it? Are you interested in learning more about how we can all share the road to make our streets safer for everyone? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then the Bike Walk Knoxville’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Friendly Driver program is for you!
The program covers everything drivers need to know about sharing the road with cyclists and pedestrians, from relevant laws to infrastructure to the most common collisions in our area. We’ll cover why a cyclist might be riding their bike in the middle of the lane, how to pass them safely, and more. However you get around, this program will increase your understanding of how to share the road safely!
This course is just one way that Bike Walk Knoxville works to make the Knoxville region a better place to bike and walk for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Find out more about us at bwknox.org.
Presenter Bio
Julie Elfin, Bike Walk Knoxville’s Programs and Events Coordinator, oversees BWK’s signature events, Open Streets and Tour de Lights, and outreach programs like Kids Love Bikes and Safe Routes to School. Julie grew up in the Washington, DC suburbs and graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Public Communications. After college, she served two terms with CAC AmeriCorps in East Tennessee, then worked as a seasonal park ranger in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
