Program Speaker: Dr. Gene Fitzhugh

It’s no secret in our cycling community that much of East Tennessee is a cycling mecca.  We are fortunate that the various aspects of cycling are popular and practiced by many citizens on a variety of public and private infrastructure systems.

How did these opportunities come to be?  Join us at this month’s Wheelmen membership meeting to learn from Gene Fitzhugh, University of Tennessee  Associate Professor how his research into bicycling can impact on the infrastructure resources.

Have you ridden any Greenways or sections of the Knoxville Urban Wilderness trails?  He has studied how those trails are being used and who is doing the riding.

The meeting will be Monday the 16th at 6:00pm in the public meeting room of Mountain Commerce Bank, 6101 Kingston Pike (at the corner of Northshore and Kingston Pike).

Bring a friend for the social gathering.  Club news will be discussed beginning at 6:30 and then the featured speaker will follow.

Dr. Fitzhugh is a physical activity epidemiologist with a focus on how the features of greenways and parks promote or hinder physical health.  Research studies have shown a lifestyle with a moderate amount of physical activity lowers a person’s risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Smoky Mountain membership is not required to enjoy our meetings, we are open to the public.  But be warned, we are such a likeable group of riders that it’s hard to resist becoming a cyclist with us.

Pizza will be provided at the meeting although we do ask for donations to help defray club costs.
